Heidi Hunter has worked professionally in the arts for 20 years. Her creative energies turned to fibre when she began quilting in 1999.  Since then, her work has evolved from traditional quiltmaking to fanciful landscapes and playful abstracts and most recently fabric dyeing and surface design.

Her sucessful visual arts career started in 2001 when her art quilt "Quad" was recipient of the Judith Ryan Memorial Award in the Manitoba Crafts Council Spring Juried Exhibition. Since then, her work has been juried into six of these annual exhibitions. Her quilts "Velkommin", "Fiesta" and "Dyed and Gone to Mexico" appeared in National Juried Shows for Quilt Canada 2004, 2006 and 2008 respectively, the latter won 2nd place for representational wallhanging.  At Quilt Canada 2008, Heidi was thrilled to curate a quilt exhibition for the Fibre Arts Network to be hung at the national conference in St. John's Newfoundland.

This year, "Invitation" and "Fiesta" were chosen for the "O Canada" exhibit which travelled to quilt festivals in Houston, Long Beach and Chicago.

Inspired by her extensive travels across the country. Heidi's work celebrates the colour and design in nature. She uses leaves from her cottage garden to make her sunprinted silks and her landscapes reflect the many faces of the Canadian terrain.

Heidi lives in her country home in Winnipeg Beach where she works and teaches out of her Runs with Scissors Studio
