HAND APPLIQUE LANDSCAPE CLASS
Saturday July 24
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
$95 (plus taxes) includes kit fee.
In this one day intensive workshop, you will construct and design a small hand-sewn landscape which can be matted and framed. Instruction includes lessons in colour, design and basic hand appliqué technique.
SUPPLY LIST (What you bring)
fabric scissors
pins
pencil
scrap paper or sketchpad
lots of SCRAPS of quilting cottons and other fabrics. Choose fabrics with interesting small patterns, line, colour, in a palette that's pleasing to you.... reminiscent of the colours and patterns in nature (grass, stone, sand, fields) You can use paisley motifs, stripes, florals. Quilting batiks and hand-dyes work very well, but are not necessary. Bring some "ugly" cottons, too.... not just your favourite colours. Colours that are not to your taste are great to "quirk" up a design and also to share with others.
OPTIONAL: photos of landscapes (old calendars or magazines are great) We'll be passing these around for discussion, so whatever you can bring would be great.
If this is your first time with appliqué, you're best to stick with cotton fabrics rather than anything too slippery, or hard to work with. If you're an expert, bring some sheers or silks for accents.
I have scraps here at the studio, so don't worry if you think you don't have enough.
Your class kit will include a selection of handpainted skies and water, needles, silk thread, mats, viewfinder.
